  • Easy, beautiful hikes around Berchtesgaden (Bayern-Germany)

1. Hirschkasser

2. Kneifelspitze

3. Purtschellerhaus

4. Schneibstein

5. Untersberg

+ challenge Hoher Göll

The easiest hike, but at the same time probably the most beautiful hike, is Hirschkaser, with a height of 1391 m above sea level. The starting point for this hike is the Hochschwarzeck parking lot. It is a short, stunning hike, and at the top is a restaurant with amazing food and a playground for the kids benches, and a wonderful view of Watzmann Mountain. And if you eat too much food and feel like you can't go down, or if you are with kids, and they can't walk anymore, there is a cable car; kids can use it for free, and the grown-ups are paying around 12 euro. To get down with the cable car, it takes 15 minutes.

The next easy hike would be Kneifelspitze, with the starting point at the parking lot next to the church Maria Gern. It is mostly through the forest hike, so that means a lot of green color. During the first 15 minutes of the hike, the background is an amazing view to Watzmann Mountain.

On the top is a panorama view of Untersberg, and a big part of Salzburg, Austria.

Every time I want to do a nice, quick hike, I go Purtschellerhaus. It is a less than 2-hour hike. On top is a restaurant with freshly cooked meals and cakes. There are a couple of starting points. I usually start from the parking place next to Enzianhütte. To get to that parking lot, you have to use Rossfeld road which is a road that costs 9 euros for cars, but then the parking lot is free of charge. There are two routes to get to Purtschellerhaus, one is the Austrian path, and the second is the German path. The Austrian path makes a little circle around the mountain, but it has a beautiful view of the giant Hoher Göll. A German path is a path with approximately 500 stairs, and it is a path through the forest. The best combo for me would be to go up the Austrian path and come back down the German path.

My favorite hike that I did last year was Schneibstein, it is not a technically exhausting hike, but it is a 6-hour hike to finish the circle route, called Kleine Reibn. But it has the most amazing, stunning views ever. The starting point is the parking lot Hinterbrand, as I remember, a parking ticket is around 6 euros. The hike consists of forests, sand paths, rocks, etc.

One other longer hike would be Untersberg with the starting point in Marktschellenberg. It is an interesting hike with stairs in the rocks, it took me around 6 hours to get to the top, and then I came down with the cable car.

And one challenge: hike to Hoher Göll. I will just say it was a scary and interesting experience. The starting point is the same as for the Purtschellerhaus.
